Could Vitamin D Intake Correlate with Covid-19 Mortality?

May 18, 2020

Researchers at Trinity College Dublin conducted a study to test whether vitamin D deficiency may be linked to higher mortality rates from Covid-19.  The report of the study, published in the Irish Medical Journal, analyzed vitamin D levels of elderly subjects in countries heavily affected by the coronavirus. They found that places with high death rates from Covid-19, like Italy and Spain, also had rates of vitamin D deficiency. On the other hand, countries like Norway, Finland, and Sweden showed lower rates of vitamin D deficiency, along with lower mortality rates from the virus.  What did the scientists conclude? Plain and simple — making sure we receive vitamin D daily may prevent us from contracting the coronavirus.

Vitamin D has been studied previously to see if daily supplementation could significantly reduce the risk of infections like the flu. One study conducted in 2017 had 25 randomized controlled trials, with more than 11,000 subjects — and concluded that taking vitamin D daily or weekly could significantly reduce the risk of severe respiratory infections. For the subjects who were deficient in vitamin D, the risk of respiratory infection was cut in half when supplementation was introduced.

It is important to note that the coronavirus study does not mean vitamin D will treat or completely prevent Covid-19  — however, it makes a great point of important supplements that our body needs to function at its best, and to have its best defense team ready. Along with vitamin D, many doctors have mentioned that colostrum is one of the best supplements to take in order to build a defense against many respiratory diseases, including the coronavirus.

So, what if we made it easy? What if there was a supplement that combined colostrum, vitamin D, and as a cherry on top, probiotics? TBR Labs’ Gutlove has it all!
